Overview
In April 2018, 113 parcels within the Turning Mill neighborhood received approval from Lexington Town Meeting to form an NCD via the bylaw Chapter 78A. This NCD includes:
- Demar Road
- Dewey Road
- Gould Road
- Grimes Road
- Jeffrey Terrace
- Mountain Road
- Partridge Road
- Turning Mill Road
History
The original construction of the Turning Mill neighborhood began in the late 1950s and continued through the late 1960s. Residents have always enjoyed the woodland setting, the creative and thoughtful architecture as well as a strong community bond. These characteristics were largely untouched for 50 years.
By the early 21st century, however, economic prosperity and the accelerating pace of reconstruction in town began to cause neighbors concern that this unique neighborhood character was under threat. In an effort to preserve their neighborhood, residents began a multi-year process to:
- Identify the characteristics they wanted to preserve
- Build consensus and support for an NCD in the neighborhood
This resulted in the formation of the Turning Mill NCD Study Group in 2016, and ultimately, the formation of the Turning Mill Neighborhood Conservation District in 2018.
