Lexington has been steadily adding solar power production to our municipal facilities for many years.

An aerial view of the ground- and roof-mounted solar arrays at the Hartwell Avenue composting facility. This 1.62 megawatt facility has been operating since May 10, 2017.
We also have rooftop solar arrays on 5 of our school buildings, as well as Cary Library.
As of March 1, 2022, we have generated 20,655,456 kWh of electricity.
That's enough energy to power 1,750 homes for a year!
