Board of Appeals Associates

Under the Zoning By-Law, the Board of Appeals issues special permits for use of property, grants variances from dimensional requirements of the By-Law, and hears appeals from decisions of the Building Commissioner.  

Before being considered for full membership to the Board of Appeals, Associate Members must:

  • Serve as an associate for at least 2 years
  • Fulfill an 8-year residency requirement
  • Have significant experience and activity in related town affairs
  • Have no major land holding interest in Lexington

Overview

The role of the Board of Appeals is to:

  • Hear and decide administrative appeals
  • Hear and decide applications for special permits
  • Hear and decide petitions for zoning variances
