Board of Health Information for Food Establishments

August 26, 2010 - To All Food Establishments:

The Town has received information from the MWRA regarding a possible water break near the vicinity of the previous break that occurred in May 2010.  Although at this time, there are no water service interruptions, the Health Division is notifying all food establishments to warn you of the potential for a boil water or conserve water order.  If an order to boil water or conserve water is ordered, the Health Department wants to make sure all food establishments are prepared with an Emergency Action Plan for this type situation in order to help food establishments continue with food service operations and help avoid an order to close.

As a result of the last water emergency, the Health Division and Board of Health have drafted a "Food Service Plan During Emergencies" guide to assist food establishments with planning for this type of event.  The procedures outlined in this guide should be followed in order to allow food service operations to continue in the event that a boil water or conserve water order is issued.

The Health Division or designee will be in contact with you if a Boil Water or Conserve Water order is issued.  If you have not taken steps to develop an emergency action plan for this type of event, the Health Division may have no option but to close operations until an emergency action plan is in place.
