Housing Complaints

Occupants and Owners of housing units must maintain certain standards in order to protect the health, safety and well being of Lexington residents.  The standards apply to every owner- occupied or rented dwelling, dwelling unit, mobile dwelling unit, or rooming house unit which is used for living, sleeping, cooking and eating. These regulations are found in Chapter II of the State Sanitary Code, 105 CMR 410.00) entitled "Minimum Standards of Fitness for Human Habitation".

Food Service / Suspect Food Illness Complaints

As a component of communicable disease surveillance, complaints are encouraged to be filed with the Health Division after a meal from a local food establishment may cause "flu"like symptoms or a related illness.  Throughout the country, most food borne illnesses go unreported.  Please report any suspect food borne illness complaints to the health division in order to help the Health Division monitor the community's well being.

Nuisance Complaints

Lexington residents may file a compliant and request an inspection of a wide variety of issues including but not limited to air, noise, odor and dust.  The Board of Health (Health Division) may investigate, at its discretion, specific conditions or nuisances that may be injurious to the public health and may order the abatement of any threat to the public health or nuisance found to exist in the Town of Lexington.
