Project Overview    Visitors come to Lexington Center by car, by bus, by bike and on foot. It is a vibrant, historic Center, with shopping and entertainment options throughout the day and evening. The Town hopes to improve the infrastructure as well as strengthen the sense of place and community.

The Town of Lexington's Department of Public Works and Economic Development Office has contracted with Pressley Associates for their team's expertise in urban design, landscape architecture, planning and traffic engineering to create streetscape concept plan and designs for the Center of Lexington.

We will establish the framework for streetscape improvements in the Center to revitalize the aging landscape and infrastructure.  Improvements will be historically appropriate and accessible for all visitors in all travel modes. In particular the plan will:

  • Improve the Center sidewalks and circulation between the public and private spaces
  • Identify safety issues and deficiencies in lighting, landscaping, street furniture, street art and way-finding
  • Guide allocation of resources based on the first two goals
  • Focus specific improvements for north side areas

The Center Streetscape Concept Plan will be developed with a commitment to accessibility and circulation which enlivens the public spaces and streetscape.  The end product will be a Center Streetscape Concept Plan with Schematic Design-level products, including a cost estimate for a section of the north side of Mass Avenue.
